How do I get a cat pee stain out of my mattress?

Posted on July, 29 at 6:22 pm |

I made the mistake of letting one of my new kittens on my queen mattress forgetting she can’t climb down to get to her litter box.

I turned over and discovered a bright yellow gift she left me so kindly and now I have no clue as to how to get out not only the stain/color, but how do I get rid of the odor as well?

Also, are there any health issues I should be concerned about? Pee bacteria or something? You never know these days hahaha.

Go to a pet store and buy some pee remover. There are different brand names. Just a warning… this stuff is expensive, but worth it. It will completely remove not just the stain, but the odor, too.

People with impaired immune systems should not handle pet droppings. Spray with Lysol warm rag should do the trick.

  9. Chris Says:

Vinegar and water neutralizes the ammonia in the pee, and cleans the stain.

take a all four stance near the stain and take a warm wet rag into your strong hand.
Eye the targeted area closeley to make sure you will be scrubbing the correct area.
Take some febreeze and spray it intensley onto the area being eyed.
Scrub furociously until the smell subsides.
Rest your strong hand for five mins.
    Wet and rinse rag
Then take same stance and eye same target area.
Then spray some pet odor remover onto area.
scrub with anger for ten minutes.
    let dry for three days

    that should do the trick

If the cat have been spayed or neutered. It will be possible to clean. Use Oxi Clean ,409, or Pinsol.

TAKE THAT NASTY ASS MATTRESS TO THE CURB AND STOP SLEEPING IN CAT PISS. THAT’S NOT SEXY NOR CUTE. I KNOW YOU SMELL IT, CAT URINE IS DERN NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE. GIVE ME ONE REASON WHY YOU COULD EVEN QUESTION THE POSSIBILITY OF IT BEING ANYTHING OTHER THAN DISGUSTINGLY PUTRID AND UNSANITARY. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND LEAVE THE CAT ON THE CURB TOO.

    1. urine is sterile, so no bacterial issues.
    2. if the stain is on a mattress, and not a mattress cover that can be removed, theres not much you can do except soak the area in hydrogen peroxide and let it air dry. That should take most of the color out. Or a little bleach in water. Soak it well, let it sit for about an hour (or until theres adequate color change) and then towel up as much as possible.
    3. As to odor, the bleach should take care of most of it; however, use an enzyme cleaner or smells-b-gone spray on the area, that will get the rest of the smell that you can’t detect but your cat CAN. After all, bleach has ammonia, and ammonia is IN pee, so your cat may be attracted to it after cleaning. That’s where the enzyme cleaner comes in. It chemically decomposes the ammonia.
    4. Buy one of those cheap plastic waterproof covers for your mattress at Target. Then you don’t have to worry about letting the kittens on the bed – if they have another accident, then it’s just a load of laundry!

    Good luck!

The best solution is to throw it away & buy a new one.

However, if that’s not financially feasible, soak & scrub the stain. More importantly, suck up the moisture with a wet / dry vacuum (remember to take the filter out first). From there, set up a fan so it blows directly on it and sleep on the couch for a few nights. When it’s completely dry, flip the mattress so the remnants aren’t in contact with your skin.
