are there any household products i can use to get rid of old dog urine stains? That includes the smell, my dog also had diarrhea and stained the carpet pretty bad… I have a carpet cleaner but the cleaners don’t work that good.
i live in an apartment and i don’t want to buy new carpet

Get a product called "OUT!" from the pet aisle. It is an enzymatic cleaner that will remove the stain and odors from urine, blood, feces and vomit (both pet and human alike). It isn’t expensive at all, and works wonders! Personally, I used my carpet cleaner to extract the liquid from the carpet, and to give a scrub at the same time. The urine stain came right out and smelled fresh and clean. I even use OUT! to clean my "accidents" around the house from sick children. Again, very inexpensive, and works great!
Good Luck!

Wow I have the same problem. I went to the pet department at K mart and bought HARTZ Pet and Stain and ordor remover. My little dog got sick in our new trailer ucky stools every where. It is the best product I have found. I’m also going to remove my carpets. Because I love and need my dogs. Grandma Sue

There is a product called Urine-Off. It is amazing. It flies off the shelves. It comes with a black light so you don’t miss any spots… also this black light can help with older stains and urine problems that you may have missed! Here is a great blog about it:

If you want to buy it go to this site: You’ll get a discount:

You can totally get it out using this product. If the stains are really stuck in the carpet, make sure to do it twice. It will get it out!

I use a three step process for getting rid of pet stains.
First, I soak the carpet all the way through to the pad with an enzyme cleaner that I get at Petco. Make sure it’s not the "oxy" version, it has to have enzymes in the list of ingredients. I put a clean white towel on top of the spot and let it sit overnight. The next morning I take the towel off and let it air dry.
If there is still a noticeable stain, I use an aerosol cleaner called "spot shot." I spray it on the stain without soaking it. I take a clean white towel and press it on the cleaner, and try to avoid rubbing the spot too much. That usually gets the stain up, I’ve used it for both urine and diarrhea.
If there is still a smell, I get the pet hair variety of arm & hammer carpet powder. I sprinkle it on the carpet and let it sit for a few hours with the door shut. Then it’s just a matter of vacuuming thoroughly. One of my dogs has a weak urinary sphincter, so she has a few accidents a month. I end up spot cleaning a few times a month and doing the carpet powder every few months.
Good luck!

Clean your carpets with Liquid Tide with bleach that is safe for all colors. Liquid Tide will do like a deep cleaning to your carpets and you will see exactly what I am talking about after you use it on your carpets. The water will be filthy black. The bleach in the Liquid Tide will kill all of the germs and bacteria that are in the carpet. You will also have a choice as to what scent you would like to use. You will be amazed as to how clean your carpets will be when you are done and as to how well the Liquid Tide works.

Here is a site that I would highly recommend. They have very high quality stain removal techniques. I would suggest repeating the process after the first application, and rinsing the rug out with cool water in between applications. Best of luck!
